Willoughby's Leather Works and Boot Repair has been in business since 1984 with Mr. Mahlon Willoughby at the reigns. With over 25 years of experience in leather repair and creating custom leather goods, Mr. Willoughby decided it was time to retire. At the same time, Mr. Lee Rader had just retired from his position in 2008 and he and his wife had decided he was too young to retire. He had been scoping the local business circuit to find one he could get involved with. He wanted to get involved in a business in a field he was passionate about, produced a high-end product and lastly, it had to be a business that had a "special quality" about it.
Mr. Rader had been a long time customer with Willoughby's and was fascinated with the cobbler's eye and skills and wanted to learn more about this old-fashioned artform. He then asked Mr. Willoughby if he paid him, could he serve as his apprentice. Mr. Willoughby smiled and came up with a better offer, he offered the business to Mr. Rader and said to him, " If you buy my business, I will teach you." And that is when a new love for an old art-form was born. Mr. & Mrs. Rader kept the Willoughby's name and still offer the same quality service and materials that keeps Willoughby's one of Sumner County's most-well known and trusted leather repair businesses.
